The Taiwanese government is working to transform and upgrade its traditional agriculture industries to spur biotech innovation in human pharmaceuticals, animal vaccines and food production. Specific regulatory initiatives focus on: (1) eliminating the barriers between R&D and commercialization and improving intellectual property protection, (2) building an industrial network system, including an Innovation Incubation Center, and helping agricultural enterprises develop global operations capabilities, and (3) optimizing the regulatory system and guiding capital investment. Taiwan has an excellent pool of R&D personnel and is located in the middle of Southeast Asia, making it an ideal point of entry into the Asia-Pacific market. This session will discuss Taiwan’s public policy initiatives to support the bioagro sector as well as key areas of innovation being pursued.
