Atul Saran was promoted to Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Ventures in 2011. In this role, he is responsible for oversight of MedImmune’s portfolio management, ventures investments and prioritization of business plans in alignment with corporate strategic initiatives. Mr. Saran also held the position of assistant secretary of MedImmune since joining the company in 2003. Mr. Saran became senior director, legal affairs in 2005 and was then promoted to vice president of legal affairs in 2008. Mr. Saran also served as primary in-house securities counsel before MedImmune’s acquisition by AstraZeneca, and as the lead attorney on all contractual matters with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services during MedImmune’s development of an H1N1 pandemic influenza vaccine. Mr. Saran came to MedImmune from Hogan & Hartson, where he was an associate attorney in the Emerging Business Practice Group. Mr. Saran graduated summa cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law, and received his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Stanford University. He also completed two years of medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination and two third-year clinical rotations.
