Mark Crowell is Executive Director of UVa Innovation at the University of Virginia. Mark’s 26-year career in university innovation includes extensive experience in licensing, start-up company formation, seed capital development, innovation-based economic development, and research campus planning. Mark came to UVa after serving as Vice President for Business Development at the Scripps Research Institute. Prior to joining Scripps, he led the technology transfer, business development and industry research programs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University and Duke University. Mark was the 2005 President of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM). Currently, he serves as Chair of BIO's Technology Transfer Committee and as a member of the Board of Directors of Southeast BIO. Mark is engaged in numerous national and international engagement activities, including chairing the Translational Research Forum at BIO’s international convention, as well as recent invitations to speak and consult in such places as New Orleans, Rio de Janeiro, Geneva and Singapore. Mark is the 2013 recipient of AUTM’s highest award, the “Bayh-Dole Award”, given “in recognition of the recipient’s untiring efforts to foster and promote intellectual property activities on behalf of the university and nonprofit community.”
